Taurus
lead-free/RoHS compliance position
Taurus will actively pursue lead-free/RoHS
compliance in direct response to:
RoHS legislation enacted in Europe
Market forces
Customer requirements:
RoHS implementation deadline is July 1st,
2006, but customer requirements
dictate Taurus compliance to this date
Compliance goal – Beginning August 2005.
Earlier compliance on some products, as required by
customers.
Taurus lead-free definition:
All raw materials and packaging materials used
during our manufacturing process is defined lead-free if they contain no more
than 0.1% Pb (lead) by weight.
Limits
amounts of banned substances are as follows:

Lead (Pb) 0.1%
by weight

Mercury (Hg) 0.1%by
weight
3.
Cadmium (Cd) 0.1%
by weight
4.
Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6) 0.1%
by weight
5.
Polybrominated Biphenyl(PBB) 0.1%
by weight
6.
Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether
(PBDE) 0.1%
by weight
RoHS Overview (Restriction of Hazardous
Substances)
RoHS legislation bans the following materials,
effective July 1st, 2006:
Pb
– solder and component terminations
Cd
– cables and insulation
Cr+6
– conversion coatings on sheet metal and hardware.
Hg
– N/A. PBB & PBDE – brominated flame
retardants in component molding compounds.
Current status.
Lead-free/RoHS compliance team formed end of 2004.
Mission:
1.
Identification of compliance
issues throughout supply chain.
2.
Implementation of RoHS compliant
components and materials.
3.
Development of lead-free assembly
processes.
4.
Qualification of new components,
materials and processes.
5.
Reliability testing to ensure
quality.
